

Jack George Jr., 72, of passed away September 29, 2010. Born July 14, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of Richmond. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1957 and from Richmond Professional Institute in 1962. He spent his entire career as a sports coordinator, first, for the Richmond Department of Recreation and Parks then for the Henrico Department of Recreation and Parks, where he retired in 2000. He also dedicated his time as an umpire for Amateur Softball Associations. He gave his time after retirement at Belmont Golf Course where he served as a starter. He was an avid golfer as anyone who knew him could attest and was a devoted sports fan, loyal to the Celtics, Red Sox and Redskins. He also was a fan of Godwin High School girl's basketball. He is survived by his son, David W. Howell and his wife, Andrea; his daughter, Elizabeth H. Jensen; his granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Jensen; his grandson, Daniel P. Howell; and his brother, E. Wynne Howell; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., where a memorial service will be held Sunday, October 3, at 5 p.m. A Wake will be held afterwards to celebrate Jack's life at Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Rd.
