James S. Akers, 88, of Henrico, passed away December 1, 2016. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Blue Cross & Blue Shield. He was a member of Temple Lodge # 9, AF & AM and a Mason for 65 years. He was also a member of ACCA Shrine and the ACCA Legion of Honor.
He was also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 28 years, Barbara, his step-son, Hugh Umphlet (Marie); his two grandchildren, Mathew and Margaret Umphlet, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 2 - 3:00 PM at the Parham Chapel of the Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N Parham Rd, Richmond. A Masonic Service will follow.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 12 @ 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
