

HODGES, James Barnard, “J.B.” 66, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2019. A loving and giving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports, supporting his alma mater Virginia Tech and the St. Louis Cardinals with enthusiasm. A gifted musician, J.B. was an excellent guitarist, pianist, and singer. He was a member of Perkins Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He founded and ran a rural youth ministry, ROCY, where many young people accepted Jesus. A natural salesman, he sold cars for 40+ years with Parrish Ford in Goochland County. He was honored throughout his career by Ford for exceptional performance, and was a pillar of the community. Before going into sales, J.B. taught high school History, coached basketball and was an athletic director at Goochland High School. He and his wife met, had a whirlwind romance, and married after dating for only 7 months. He was preceded in death by his father, James Winston Hodges. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Charlene Hodges; two children, James Lloyd Hodges, and Winston Hodges; one grandchild, the light of his life, Beatrice Hodges; and a daughter-in-law that he loved like a child, Sarah Hodges. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Nancy Hodges; and sister, Nancy Morrison (Riley). He leaves behind many loving relatives, in-laws, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229 on Thursday, June 20, 2019. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 21st, at Perkins Baptist Church, 3146 Hadensville-Fife Rd., Goochland, VA 23063.
