SELPH, James Anderson, Jr., M.D., was born in Richmond, VA and passed away on February 23, 2019, at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family. Son of Dorothy Davis Selph and James Anderson Selph, Sr., he is survived by his wife, Cynthia Selph; his four daughters, Janet Moyers, Carol Wobby, Diane Selph, Susan Gresham; his six grandchildren, Nancy and Helen Moyers, Thomas and Joann Wobby, Lawton and William Gresham; and his best buddy Taz, the cat.
Jim graduated from John Marshall High School in 1949 where he was on the football team and first captain of the Cadet Corps F. He graduated from the MCV School of Pharmacy in 1953 and the MCV School of Medicine in 1957, and completed his Residency in Urology at MCV in 1961. For several years following, he was an Associate Professor of Urology at MCV. He practiced at Chippenham Hospital and Johnston Willis Hospital until he retired in 1994.
During his career, he was appointed Chief of Urology at Johnston Willis and served on the Board of Directors at Johnston Willis, Chippenham, and the Hospital Corporation of America. He was a member of The Country Club of Virginia, The Commonwealth Club, Princess Anne Country Club, Edgartown Yacht Club, and Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, FL.
He enjoyed time with his family, weekend sails in Annapolis, and many rounds of golf. He had a lifelong love of cats, and they of him. While he dedicated his life to helping others; in his spare time, he studied the Rules of Golf and the Tax Code, and read John D. MacDonald novels.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 27 from 6-8 pm at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 11am at Hollywood Cemetery.
