SMITH, Jane Rhodes, 85, of Richmond, formerly of High Point, N.C., and widow of Bynum Edwin Smith, departed on her spiritual journey, May 22, 2014. Jane went to Guilford College in N.C., where she met her husband of 42 years, Bynum Edwin Smith. Second only to her children and various pets, Jane loved to travel, first traveling the U.S. as a child with her devoted mother and later traveling the world with her husband soon after her children were grown. She became a lover of different cultures and locales. Jane joined the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Richmond Branch, in 1962, but she was a lifelong Christian Scientist and found great peace and comfort from its tenets. She felt Christian Science kept her disease free all of her life. It took a fall to finally send her on her new spiritual life. Survivors include two sons, Mark Claiborne Smith (Pat) and Victor Lucien Smith; one daughter, Marsha Smith Humphrey (Marvin); along with her devoted caregivers, Carolyn Mason and Shawandra Jackson. The family asks all to pray for our mother on her spiritual journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Church Christ, Scientist, 2201 Monument Ave., Richmond Va. 23220, or to the wildlife charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made www. woodyfuneralhome.com
