Janice was a committed follower of Christ. She completed countless Bible studies over the course of her life. She willingly shared her faith with those she loved, those she befriended, and anyone in need of comfort. Many commented on her dimpled smile, acts of kindness, and love for her country.
Janice loved cruises and car trips – a highlight was driving Route 66 with Philip upon their retirement, before settling into a bayside home in Bethany Beach, Delaware. She said her hobby was decorating. Each season required a different front door wreath, flower arrangements, pillows, photos, and travel mementos. An avid quilter, Janice designed and created personal quilts and wall-hanging for family members and friends.
Janice was born on July 27, 1947, in Alexandria, Virginia, where she lived through her teen years, graduating from Hammond High School in 1965. She met Philip in 1966, after he returned from Vietnam. They married later that year, eventually residing in Woodbridge, Virginia, where they raised their children.
Janice leaves behind her daughter, Lara (Tony), and son, John (Alexandra) as well as those who called her “Gram:” Paul, Alyssa, Nicholas, Jenna, Mara, Ashley, Ciara, Delana, Christi, Henry, and Alejandra. Janice is also missed by her sisters-in-law, Sherry and Lisa, and nieces and nephews, Jeff, Christian, Shannon, Donna, and April. Her dog, Trigger, will stay with Lara and Tony.
Besides her husband, Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gladys Hurst; all three of her siblings, Wayne, Denny, and Sandy; as well as her brother-in-law, Richard.
Janice’s favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” We are grateful she no longer loses strength or grows weary.
A celebration of life and graveside service is planned for Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:00pm at Quantico National Cemetery 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
