

Jean Miller Brooks entered her Eternal home on January 28, 2017. She was born on October 11, 1929 in Amherst, Virginia, the youngest of Napoleon B. Miller and Annie Stinnett Miller’s twelve children.
Jean graduated from Madison College in 1951 as salutatorian and officer of her graduating class. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Her post graduate career began as a librarian in the South Norfolk school system followed by a number of years in the classroom as a substitute teacher in Henrico County.
Jean and DeWitt Brooks began their 59 years of marriage in Schenectady, New York, where their first child, Nicole was born. Their family grew with the birth of a second daughter, Frances, and twin sons, Jeff and Steve in Lynchburg, VA. After moving to Richmond, VA in 1972, Jean became an active member of Welborne United Methodist Church where she served as a member of its Alter Guild. She also served as a leader of her beloved Ruth Robinson Circle, and was honored in 1995 with a Special Member recognition.
Jean devoted her life to the love and care of her family members, especially her beloved spouse, “Brooks”. Her compassion extended to her neighbors and friends as she celebrated with them on joyous occasions and supported them through sorrowful ones. Her other interests included reading and gardening as well as traveling with DeWitt and relatives on several trips abroad. Beach vacations with her family were always special treasured times for her.
Jean is survived by her children, Nicole, Fran and her husband, Pete; Jeff and his wife, Lori; Steve, and his wife Beanie; and her precious granddaughter,
A service of celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Welborne United Methodist Church, 920 Maybeury Drive, on Thursday, February 2nd at 11 a.m. The family will visit with friends and family at Woody Funeral Home at 1771 N. Parham Road on Wednesday, February 1st from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
