Jean Raye Shelton Hamilton, 85, of Henrico, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 12th. Jean was born in Bluefield, WV on July 23, 1931 but lived from a young age in Roanoke, VA until moving to Richmond with her husband in 1963. Jean was a member of South Roanoke UMC in Roanoke, and Trinity UMC and Derbyshire Baptist Church in Henrico. Jean Raye is preceded in death by her parents, Pocahontas Blackwell and Joseph Benson Shelton, and brothers, Jack Shelton, Benson Shelton and David Shelton. She is loved and will be remembered by her sisters, Betty Joyce Turner (and family) in Roanoke, and Kathryn Koch and her husband Buddy (in Henrico) and their children Archer and Laura (in California) along with other nieces and nephews. Jean took much pride in her work as a wife, mother and grandmother. Words cannot describe the void that is felt by her husband, John, of 53 years, as well as her son Daniel and his wife, Beth. Perhaps most precious to her were her three grandchildren: Caleb, Sara and John Mark, whom she loved dearly and who will miss her so very much. A memorial service will be held at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, Henrico, at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16th with a reception to follow. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the music ministry at Derbyshire Baptist Church, whose programs blessed Jean in her spiritual life. Arrangements under the direction of Woody Funeral Home-Parham, Richmond, VA.
