Jean Vaughn Lassiter

Jean was born to Alvin Hardy Vaughn and Muriel Lee Dubois Vaughn of Alpine and Livingston, Tennessee on December 25, 1945 in Cookeville, Tennessee. She and her twin sister Joyce were a surprise Christmas gift to her family.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Lee Lassiter of 60 years, her daughter Lynette Hendrich and husband Steven Hendrich of Franklin, Tennessee, son Todd Lassiter and wife Amanda Lassiter of Ashland, Viriginia, grandchildren, Craig Hendrich and wife Jenn Hendrich of Thompson Station, Tennessee, and Kacey Mikrut and husband David Mikrut of Franklin, Tennessee, Isabella Schwarz and husband Justin Schwarz of New York, New York, Gabriel Lassiter of Virginia Beach, Viriginia, Cy Lassiter and wife Caraline Lassiter of Denver, North Carolina, Lex Lassiter of Ashland, Viriginia, great grandchildren, Penelope Hendrich and Lucas Hendrich both of Thompson Station, Tennessee, Naomi Mikrut and Eden Mikrut both of Franklin, Tennessee. Sisters Marjorie Vaughn Campbell of Johnson City, Tennessee, Mary Vaughn Kelly of Cary, North Carolina. and Joyce Vaughn Pyle of Franklin, Tennessee. Sister-in-law Sylvia Wilburn of Youngstown, N.C. Nephew Scott Wilburn of Zebulon, N.C. Niece Natalie McCurdy of Raleigh, N.C.

As a young girl Jean was very active in First Baptist Church in Livingston, Tennessee. She was in Sunbeams, Girls Auxiliary and Bible School for many years. Jean graduated from Livingston Academy in Livingston, Tennessee. in 1964. While in high school she was president of Future Homemakers of America club, she was a cheerleader for 4 years, a member of the L Club, Pep Club and the 4-H Club. Jean won the Miss Fairest of the Fair Beauty Queen in 1961.

She attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. from 1964 to 1966. Her major was Physical Education. Her career was in banking where she worked for Sun Trust Bank for 25 years as a Loan Assistant in Richmond, Virginia. Jean was a faithful member of Mechanicsville Christian Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Jean was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister; a “True Giver” from her heart to help people in need. Jean’s greatest gift to others came from her strong relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was His anointed servant, as a prayer intercessor. When she prayed, she rang the bells of Heaven.

The Celebration of Life Service will be at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA. 23229 on Tuesday October 6, 2026. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers you can give a love gift to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews in memory of Jean.
