She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Parrish and Laurie Wesson Parrish, brother Malvern “Pete” Parrish, and sister Evelyn Lavender Evans. She is survived by her faithful husband of 64 years Roger LaCourse, daughter Kristi LaCourse Lynch, granddaughters Peyton Christine Lynch and Kendall Greyson Lynch, their father Frank Lynch, niece Eloise Parrish, and nephews Larry Parrish (Leigh), Jack Lavender, and Jimmy Lavender.
Jewell was fiercely independent and determined, and she spent her life caring for others. She moved from Lawrenceville, Virginia, to Richmond by herself at age 17 to attend nursing school where she became a registered nurse. Jewell soon met her husband Roger while he was on recruiting duty for the Army in Richmond. They married, and she supported him through the rest of his 22 years in the service. Roger loved and honored her immensely every day they were together.
Jewell was always very protective of her immediate and extended family and served as a source of strength for any of those who needed it. She loved her mother Laurie tremendously and did her best to make her life comfortable, especially while caring for her in a nursing home for 12 years. Jewell was the best mother a daughter could ask for, and Kristi will treasure the special bond she shared with her mom forever. She received such pleasure from being Mimi to Peyton and Kendall, loving them with all her heart and leaving them with so many good memories. She always had a faithful dog by her side, most recently Quagmire who visited with her daily until she passed.
Her family would like to thank those caregivers at Beth Sholom Healthcare Center who loved and cared for her over the past two years. Jewell made the world a better place for her family, but she is at peace now waiting until we see her again.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Woody Funeral Home on Parham Road at 10:30 on Friday, January 28th. She will be interred at Westhampton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
