Joan Carol Blackwell

Blackwell, Joan Carol (1936 - 2026) passed away on August 3rd 2026. Joan is survived by her three sons, Donald, Jeffrey (Duane) and Eric; two grandchildren, Jennifer Banks (Gavin) and Kimberly Lord (Thomas), five great-grandchildren, and dedicated Godchild, Debbie Grotenhuis (Mike). She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Warner Lavon; daughter, Diane Carol; parents Walter and Lillian Fitton; and two brothers, Authur Herbert Henriksen and Robert Victor Henriksen.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Joan served as office manager in the family business, London Sweeps Chimney Sweeps. Joan was also an avid collector of country Antiques, travelling across Virginia and beyond “picking” items for both her personal collection and retail spaces. She owned and worked at various antique stores and malls in Ashland, Richmond and surrounding counties, most recently at Coalfield Station Antiques in Midlothian, VA. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1967 and enjoyed serving for many years on the altar guild.

Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY and shared many stories about her time growing up on Grant Avenue. She loved to take the subway and ride her bicycle exploring Brooklyn, Coney Island and Manhattan.
