Obituary of Joan Hundley Jones
Jones, Joan Fisher Hundley, 84, a resident of Westminster Canterbury, passed away peacefully March 18, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Richard M. Jones, Sr. and is survived by her three loving children, Cynthia L. Reynolds (Gerald), Kathryn J. Robertson and Richard M. Jones, Jr. (Ruth); two loving grandchildren, Jessica B. Reynolds and Gregory M. Robertson. She was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where she earned her degree in Education and Biology. Early in her career she taught while her husband finished Graduate School. Later, when he finished school and became a Rocket Scientist for Morton Thiokol, they moved to Delaware where she became a mother and housewife. After a brief transfer to Brunswick Georgia, in 1965, they moved to Richmond where she raised the family and taught high school Biology until she retired in 1987. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader for many years while her girls were participating. She was a cheerleader at all the children's and grandchildren’s events. After she retired from teaching, she worked as a consultant for Virginia Power to help redevelop and restart the Richmond Area Student Science Fair through the Math-Science Innovation Center of Richmond. She had a strong passion for music and was a vocalist in high school, college and beyond. She became a member of the Richmond Choral Society and, on many occasions, was a featured soloist under the direction of Alton Howell. She was an active member of both St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and St. Matthews Episcopal Church where she participated in the church choir and many other groups. At Westminster Canterbury, she enjoyed the theater and socializing and was known for leading singing groups there. She also loved gardening and watching the birds as they would come and go each season. The family will receive friends at Woody’s Funeral Home-Parham Chapel on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 6-8. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 1101 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23229. Reception to follow. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcome and Joan requested donations to be made to the Paul Simpson Memorial Music Fund at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
