John Durwood "Skip" Roberts

John D. "Skip" Roberts, (February 4, 1946 - November 29, 2014) passed away peacefully at Sitter Barfoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond, Va. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Roberts; children, Kip Roberts and his wife, Vanessa, Bobbi Jones and her husband, Mike, Trip Roberts and his fiancée, Paola; grandchildren, Logan and Corinne Roberts, Owen and Mason Jones; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland "Bootsie" Roberts; his mother, Tamie Roberts; and his beloved grandson, John D. Roberts III.

Skip was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and was proud to have served in Vietnam. Skip and Mary married in 1968 in Richmond and raised their three children. When Skip wasn't working on his assortment of classic cars, you could find him in the local bowling center talking to members of the community and coaching youth bowlers. He introduced all three of his children to bowling and participated and coached many events during their childhood. In 1995, he was inducted into the GRUSBC Hall of Fame for his meritorious service and in 2013, was inducted to the Greater Richmond Youth Hall of Fame. While big accomplishments, he was most proud that both of his sons achieved the same honor for their performance. Part of his joy in bowling was the travel to get to the tournament destinations. He enjoyed cruising, racing and was up for a road trip, no matter the distance. Las Vegas, Nev. and Route 66 were notable favorites. He and Mary would participate with their children and later, watch them bowl for many years.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., and where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 3, at 11 a.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Skip's Scholarship Fund, to sponsor youth scholarship bowling tournament. Contributions can be made
