

Born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, John was the son of the late Robert Stanley Goodman Jr. and Florence Booton Goodman. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Stanley Goodman III, and his sister-in-law, Suzanne Goodman.
John is survived by his loving wife, Anne Hamner Goodman; his son, Michael Goodman; his daughter, Beth Travis, and her husband, Sean Travis; and his cherished grandchildren, Colton Travis, Derek Travis, Shaia Goodman, and Archer Travis. He is also survived by his brother, William Goodman, and his wife, Charla Goodman; his sister-in-law, Pam Joseph; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
John graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville and earned his degree from the University of Richmond. He devoted 40 years of service to Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem, where he worked in computer operations and retired as a systems analysis.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and son-in-law whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He especially treasured family vacations, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, and cheering from the sidelines as his grandchildren participated in sports and other activities.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was deeply committed to serving his community and generously volunteered his time in many capacities. He served as a youth soccer coach and was actively involved in his church through the animal ministry, food pantry, and church council. He was also a member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), served as an election official for the Rockville precinct, and volunteered with the Sheriff's Academy.
John will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family, willingness to serve others, and quiet strength. His legacy of love, service, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 1706 St. Matthew's Lane, Richmond, Virginia 23233.
Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902.
