My brother, my friend.
Decades at the fairs, and all places in between.
Parades and peanuts,
Pig races and people-watching

Si Kahn wrote,

New wood grows from the roots underground
Gone … gonna rise again.

How many times did we play that song together,
through fair and foul weather,
The banjo and the jembe
In the little ol’ log cabin at the Heritage Village
So today, we add a new verse
To the song we all sang so many times together,
"All the Good People," by Ken Hicks:

This is a song for a maker of music
Who learned from his master and passed it along
From scrollwork to end pin,
He brought joy to his friends
That every apprentice might sing the same song.

Fair winds and following songs, Brother. Your memory is a blessing to all who know you.

It is such a rare honor to spend time with an artist who lives his passion. John and I have shared the same work space for several annual events for over two decades. I could not have asked for an easier person to call "my friend". I will miss our evenings on the porch, singing with John and Bob playing the songs we rarely get to hear. The smell of Patchouli or the sight of a tiny finger plane will bring a flood of memories. But mostly, I will miss my quiet, gentle-natured friend.
