Woody Funeral Home-Parham

1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA

John Boyce York Jr.

October 6, 1956January 7, 2020

John Boyce York, Jr. was survived by his mother and father, John and Becky York, his children Ashley, Austin (Rachel), Michael (Wendy), Taylor, David, and Alex, their loving mother and his forever friend, Sheila York, his grandchildren Elijah, Ava, and James, his siblings Lance and Dawn, mother-in-law Thelma, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was known for his smile. In his 63 years, his presence brought joy and comfort to everyone that knew him. He lived by his songs and sayings like “Life is just a big tomato” and “It’s the simple pleasures in life.” He challenged the status quo and taught his children if you live a life of compassion and kindness, you’re the richest person in the world. An eternal artist and dreamer, John was the kindest, sweetest, funniest, goofiest, handsomest, singingest, drawingest, and lovingest person. He was most proud of his family and we are most proud of him.

The funeral service will be held at Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel at 1:00 on Saturday, January 18th with a viewing on Friday, January 17th from 5:00-8:00. All friends, family, and acquaintances of the York family are welcome to join in celebrating the life of John York.

Sara Richardson wanted me to post this:
To Sheila & children:
John was a bright star in my life.
He was a happy sweet Christian when I knew him.
He made my life richer.
He will always be in my memory.
My love to all of you,

My memory of John (Hope Maker)
My favorite memory of John:
He was such a good loving father to his beloved children.
He was excellent in everything he did.
When he worked for Midas I told Sheila I thought he had the Midas touch, as did the character in the fable. (Everything he touched turned to gold. ) Sheila agreed.
He made the beautiful set for the Kingdom Kids at Faith Landmarks Church.
I am grateful for what he did for the children’s ministry at FLM Church, including my daughter.
John was brilliant, gifted, and personable.
He will be greatly missed by many.

I worked with John at Haynes Furniture and The Dump Furniture. He was always so upbeat no matter what was going on in this crazy Life. Always putting other people needs first. A gentle soul who never wanted to see someone struggling. He is with our Lord and in peace. He is at home. ❤

I worked with John at The Dump. He was always so funny, gracious, and so dedicated to his job. He never had time to eat because he always took care of other people’s problems.
When I was down, he always picked me up. He made me feel that there was always something better on the horizon. He would also repeat, “Boom, Chaka Laka” & that always made me smile!
To his family, I am devastated for your loss..he was a proud father and grandfather and always spoke about y’all...my heart breaks for you💔

When I was in my teen years, I would go to Johns and Shelias Home and stay with them. John was always a caring person ! I would go to church with them back in the day. He was the first person who ever told me about rap Christian music because at the time, that was what I was into! Praying for Shelia, Austin, Michael, Taylor, David , Ashley and the rest of Johns family! Never forgot when I rolled up to there house on a Black 2 seater car with tinted windows and Juicy G was all on the car and he was Preaching at that time and my car was park in front of their house! I was still welcomed ! That was the person John was. He didn’t judge !! He was a great man!! ❤️❤️
