Joseph H. Griffin Jr.

GRIFFIN, Joseph H., Jr., age 71, passed away January 28, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Jenny Griffin for 23-1/2 years. He also lives on in the hearts of his sons, Gregory Griffin and Jonathan Griffin; stepson, Jeff Hood; adored grandson, Gavin Griffin; sister, Elizabeth Rudell; and an array of cherished family and friends, including his Grace Baptist Church family. Joe was predeceased by his father, Joseph Griffin Sr.; mother, Olive Griffin (Hodnett); and beloved brother, William (“Bill”) Griffin.

Joe will always be remembered for his sweet spirit, big heart, dry wit and commitment to continuous learning (especially the Japanese language, culture and history which he studied for nearly 20 years). Joe was a 1971 graduate of the University of Virginia and was employed 33 years at Philip Morris USA. Since retiring in 2004, Joe could be seen with a cup of coffee, book in hand and pens in his shirt pocket or collar, often wearing his favorite sweatshirt. He enjoyed reading/learning, worldwide travel, long walks/hikes and the simple pleasure of a good cup of coffee. He gave back to the community delivering Meals on Wheels and driving Shepherd’s Center clients to appointments.

A memorial service will be shared on the Grace Baptist Church of Richmond YouTube channel on March 7. In lieu of flowers, consider a gift in his memory to Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, Va. 23221.
