Kenneth Allen Thomas

Born to the late Laymon Lewis Thomas, Sr. and Mary Lee Hall Thomas Adams on August 21, 1947, in Mineral, Virginia, Ken ultimately grew up in Richmond, Virginia after his family’s relocation to the area.

Ken was a man who showed deep love and compassion for his family and was a fierce advocate for their success. He was a consistent man who worked to better himself with education, attending Virginia Commonwealth University alongside his daughter, Sharon.

He worked hard for his education, earning induction into many academic honor societies. His gratitude for his time at the university morphed into a deep sense of responsibility and pride for VCU, which led him to serve for over 20 years on various VCU Alumni Advisory Boards. Ken also thoroughly enjoyed VCU athletics, especially their basketball team, whom he followed and supported.

Professionally, Ken was also dedicated and hardworking. He ultimately retired from BB&T and Scott and Stringfellow after first dedicating many years of service to Wheat First Securities.

He is survived by his wife Patricia “Pat” Inglesby Thomas; his daughter Sharon Thomas; his grandsons, Dylan and Hunter Clark; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Libbie” Critcher Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Kenneth “Tony” Allen Thomas, Jr.; his brothers Bruce P. Thomas (Doris Adams), Charles E. Thomas, Laymon L. Thomas, Jr. (Mary Lee Strong); and one sister Phyllis Grooms.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23238. A visitation and time of fellowship will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Woody Funeral Home-Parham, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Ken’s memory to the VCU Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
