

LAM, Mr. Dao Tran Lam, age 81, a retired Martin Super Market employee, passed away quietly at his home in Glen Allen on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. He was born on April 10, 1930 in Vietnam to the late Dao Xuan Vien and Tran Thi Giang. He was married to Nguyen Thi Quy. He joined the South Vietnamese Army to fight communism and preserve freedom for the Republic of Vietnam. For several years, he served as a high ranking Colonel in the South Vietnamese equivalent of the Pentagon.
After moving to the U.S., he worked for Sterile Concepts and the Henrico County school system helping to instill value in young adults and put a smile on so many kids’ faces. He was an active civic member of the Vietnamese community, and also the Asian community at large in Richmond, Virginia. He helped both the Buddhist and the Catholic families. There was no racial or religious division to his generosity and desire to help man kind. He had a passion to help people where and when ever they needed. Mr. LAM is survived by his wife (Nguyen Thi Quy), two sons (Dao Anh Bang & Dao Qui Bao), daughter (Dao Thu Hanh); and six grandchildren. A traditional Buddhist ceremony service for Mr. LAM will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 1 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia. The Venerable Buddhist Monk (Thay) Thich Minh Tri will officiate. Cremation service will be held on the same day. The family will receive friends on Thursday and Friday, July 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m and also on Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mr. LAM is remembered by friends, families and colleagues for his legacy of genuine generosity and compassion for others.
