Lambert J. Nicolls, born January 20, 1925 at New York Presbyterian Hospital, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 100. A lifelong New Yorker, Lambert spent nearly all of his years in the borough he loved most: the Bronx, where he lived until 2022 before moving to Virginia to be closer to family.
Lambert devoted his career to serving the city through his work with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, proudly working as a token booth clerk. He was known by commuters and coworkers alike for his warm spirit, dependability, and the gentle humor that made even a busy New York morning feel lighter.
To know Lambert was to know a man full of life, discipline, and deep kindness. He had the kind of steady presence that made you feel safe and cared for. He loved fishing, handball, softball, calypso music, and had a lifelong fascination with trains. Whether he was cheering at a game, relaxing by the water, or singing along to his favorite tunes, Lambert carried a joy that touched everyone around him. His happiest moments were spent with his family and church family, who brought him endless pride and comfort.
Lambert leaves behind his beloved wife, Miriam Nicolls; his devoted daughter, Wendy Nicolls; his cherished grandchildren Sarroya Robinson, Adeife Johnson, Ayotunde Johnson, and BAFEMI Silver; and his treasured great-granddaughter, Epiphany Nicolls.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Al Green; his nieces Florence and Kim Green; his nephew-in-law Kenny; and his nephews Sherman, Lloyd, Derick, and Emmett. He leaves behind a loving extended family, a host of cousins, and many beloved friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.
Lambert lived a full, rich century of life, guided by faith, family, and resilience. His laughter, wisdom, and warmth will be remembered forever. Though he has departed this world, the legacy he built through love, loyalty, and gentle strength will continue to live on in all who knew him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
