

Larry Neal Livingston, 82, of Glen Allen, Virginia, passed away on May 11, 2013 in the presence of Joanne Heisch Livingston, the love of his life and wife of 57 years. Together they shared a life centered on their three children and eleven granchildren. Born in McKeesport, PA in 1930, he was the oldest of four children born to Grace Piper Livingston and Lawton Palmer Livingston. As a youth he excelled as a high school chess champion, served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956. He met his future wife at a social event for Pitt and nursing school students. Following college he served 32 years in many human resources and organization development roles for the U.S. Federal government. While family and friends were the focus of his life, he had many interests. He shared a love of bridge and achieved many master points in partnership with his wife. Tennis, chess and photography expressed his competitive and creative talents. He read the great books, followed current events, and loved the Redskins.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Philip B. Livingston, Rebecca A. Bray, and Bruce N. Livingston. His grandchildren loved his stories, jokes and tricks. His grandchildren are Catherine, Michael, Molly and Julie Bray; Chelsea, Cara, Erin and Kristen Livingston; Sarah, Scott, and Cynthia Livingston. He identified each one as "his favorite."
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Henrico, VA 23229. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 4825 Pouncey Tract Rd., Glen Allen VA 23059. Entombment to follow at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Glen Allen, VA.
