I had the pleasure of working with Larry at Christian Children's Fund (now ChildFund International).  He was a caring and compassionate man, gentle and genteel.  I extend my sympathies to his family, and all who mourn his loss.

I AM IN SECOND GRADE AND THIS IS MY PAPA. MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT LARRY IS THAT HE WAS THE BEST GRANDPA EVER. THE MOST FAVORITE THING HE DID FOR ME WAS HE GOT ME A REDSKINS CAR AND I WASNT A REDSKINS FAN BUT I STILL KEPT IT. HE COOKED THE BEST BACON AND IT WAS SO GOOD THAT I WANTED THREE PIECES.WHEN HE GAVE ME THREE PIECES IT MADE ME FEEL GOOD. I WANT TO SAY THAT WHEN HE WAS A KID HE USED TO BE GOOD. HE USED TO ORDER PIZZA AND THAT MADE ME FEEL AWESOME BECAUSE I THINK HE REALLY TRIED TO SPEND ALL OF HIS MONEY ON ME. HE LIKED TO BABYSIT ME WHILE MY MOM WAS GONE.WE USED TO MAKE PICTURES TOGETHER WITH MARKERS.THAT MADE ME FEEL GOOD. I REALLY THINK THAT HE SHOULD STAY IN HEAVEN BECAUSE HES WAITING FOR US.AND I LOVE YOU LARRY

I am in fifth grade and this is my PaPa. i remember when we used to go to McDonald's, then we would go to Food Lion and we used to get some candy or chocolate cake.then we used to go home and he would let me stay up on a a school night while my mom was at work. i could stay up and watch TV. The nicest thing he ever did for me was buy my wrestling ring. It was the last thing he did for me. it was my Christmas present. my favorite thing about PaPa was that he could move around even though he had polio. i miss him deeply.

I was blessed to have a friend like Larry. He had a wonderful heart for others and all of us who were his friends loved him. He was a great father who raised two remarkable children. My prayers are with them.

I lived with Larry and Jonathan Coleman my 3rd year at UVA in a home at the foot of the mountain where Monticello is located. We had plenty of time to stay up late and philosophize about everything in those formative years. Even though Larry and I did not keep up with each other over the years, I will never forget his engaging smile and his sincerity. I enjoyed looking at the pictures and am glad that Larry was able to enjoy a lovely family. Best to all.

There are certain moments in time that can be recalled with complete clarity: the exact location, the architectural details, the look and feel of the setting.  That was First Floor Humphreys, the aging and well worn dormitory at the University of Virginia where I found myself living in the fall of 1969.  It was a brand new experience, sharing a room with a complete stranger amongst a group of complete strangers, some of whom would become life-long friends.  And one of those friends was Larry Trull, the Resident Advisor, whose room was just a few doors down on the same side as mine, and who kept a constant vigil on all things happening in “the Hall”.  Larry was the go-to person for advice and consul in those hectic first weeks of class.  His door was never locked.  He held court at all hours of the night and day and his wisdom and insights were deeply appreciated.  Larry was an anchor in a sea of turbulence.  Smart, witty, unassuming and sometimes funny as hell.  (I enclose a classic photo of Larry circa 1969, in “the Hall” accosted by other first year candidates like myself).  By the time my first year at Virginia had ended, I knew that I had been a part of something very special:  that I had come to know Larry Trull as a friend and mentor, something that reverberates with me to this very day.  Rest in peace, and may God be with you.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Larry from Jonathan Coleman. I was lucky enough to meet and live with Larry and Jon my senior year of college in 1973. While  we had nothing in common as far as our backgrounds, Larry and I had an amazing respect and admiration for each other from the first time we met.  We spent a great deal of time  together that year, often late at night when we would talk about any and everything. Besides having a great sense of humor, Larry was a terrific listener and a quick study about any situation or person. The Doc was someone I could trust and rely on, always there to help and support with his infectious smile and reassuring manner. While we lost contact over the last many years, the fondness of my memories will always remain for this very special individual.

I first met Larry in 1969 at the University of Virginia. He was the RA in my first-year dorm and we became fast and close friends. I later lived with him in my third and fourth year, at a house out in the country. He drove fast and carried a gun and smoked like a chimney and everyone loved him. Everyone. That he had crutches as a result of contracting polio as a child never stopped him from doing anything (and didn't stop me from throwing them out the window once when I became unreasonably mad at him about something). Actually, this "handicap" made him even more determined. He was so bright it was a joke, but his brightness made him lazy. Things came too easily to him, so he waited until the last few minutes to do anything. Larry was the sort of friend who would do anything for you, anything he possibly could. I am at an age in my life where I can't really afford to lose any more friends. But there is nothing I can do about that. Life in so many ways was not easy for Larry. But he never complained and he was a wonderful father to his two children. His mother doted on him. And lest I forget: he had the most wonderful head of black hair. I will miss him so.
