He was born in Washington D.C. June 10,1928 to Budd and Rose Hancock, originally from Charles County, Md. Gean grew up in Dahlgren of King George County, Virginia. Gean graduated from King George High School in 1947. He served 2 years (1950 to 1952) in the U.S. Army in occupied Germany just after WWII. He also retired from Dahlgren Naval Surface Warfare Center after 25 years in space surveillance. Gean enjoyed traveling and made several trips across the United States.
Gean is predeceased by his late ex-wife Julia Clare Kimball and stepson Martin M. Burke. He is survived by his daughter Nancy R. Pfeifer, six stepchildren, Kathleen M. Trigger (Kitty), Brian T. Burke Jr., Margaret (Peggy) M. Gronewold, Padraig M. Burke, and Mary K. Sanders,19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
