Lois was the daughter of the late Morgan and Josephine Anderson, and was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert W. Tankersley, Jr., and her brother, Robert G. Anderson.
She continues to be loved and remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Leonard Holmes of Williamsburg, VA, Robin and Brian Cahill of Valley Center, CA, and Lauren and Michael Werner of Ashland, VA; her granddaughters Allison Dorbad (Rob), Kathleen Holmes, Jocelyn Clatterbuck (Sean), and Jennifer Werner; her beloved great grandchildren Lincoln and Josephine “Josie” Dorbad and Elijah “Eli” Clatterbuck; and her brother Dick Anderson and sisters-in-law, Betty Anderson and Mary Lou Anderson, as well as other extended family.
Lois was born May 25th, 1927, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in St. Paul and spent her summers at Lake Sylvia in Annandale, Minnesota. She graduated from the Kahler’s Hospitals School of Nursing in 1949 in Rochester, Minnesota and worked as a Registered Nurse before staying at home to raise her family. She moved to Richmond, VA in 1960.
She was a member of the Richmond Weavers Guild, the Sunset Hills Women’s Club, and Friends of the Library. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 46 years. Lois enjoyed walking and hiking, and loved to travel. She was an avid reader and completed the daily crossword puzzles from the newspaper. She stayed current with politics, and loved making bets on sports games with her late brother, Bob. Lois enjoyed her weekly bridge games with friends, and loved good food, wine, and a well-made Manhattan. She was a master at weaving, and made many special pieces for family to treasure. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Lois’s family is grateful for the care and support given by her medical care teams, especially by Dr. Johnny Hyde and his team at Commonwealth Gynecologic Oncology.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9th from 1-5 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA, 23229. Interment will be private.
