Mabel Slusher West

WEST, Mabel Slusher "Mimi," 87, passed away on February 24, 2013. Mabel was born on May 15, 1925 and grew up in Floyd County, Va. She graduated in 1951 from Radford Community Hospital as a registered nurse. Mabel moved to Richmond, where she met and married William "Bill" J. West. She worked at McGuire Veterans Hospital and later at St. Mary's Hospital. Putting others before herself, her Christian faith was integral to her daily life and her care of patients. She was a charter member of Skipwith United Methodist Church. Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Bill, of 57 years, and is survived by a daughter, Ann W. Klipp and her husband, Ronald Klipp, of Richmond; her son, William J. "Jay" West, Jr. of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Katie and John Klipp and William "Will" J. West III. The family would like to thank the staff of Lakewood Manor for their kindness and exceptional care. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., and where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park.
