Mamie Lee Merritt

Merritt, Mamie Lee (Garrett), 92, went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2012 in Midlothian, VA. She was born on October 3, 1920 in Geneva County, AL and also lived in Dothan, AL, and Virginia Beach, VA. There, she was a loyal, long time employee of Miller & Rhoads and enjoyed gardening, entertaining and cooking her signature southern dishes for her family, and playing bingo. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Norfolk, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Reginald Lewis; her parents, Dessie McCall Garrett and Joseph Elonzo Garrett; brothers Buster Garrett, O’Neal Garrett, Johnny Garrett; sister, Vallie Queen Hobbs. She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Linda Strawderman; son, George “Reggie” Lewis and his wife, Sally Lewis; sister, Louise Beirs; brother, George A. Garrett; grandchildren, Brad Minton and his wife Jami Minton, Kimberly Lewis Peyton, Renee Minton, and Catherine Lewis Mason and her husband David Mason; and four great-grandchildren, Charlotte Minton, Garrett Mason, Elle Minton and Eliza Mason.
