Mr. Mark Edwin Caskey

Mark Edwin Caskey, 69, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on August 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer. Although Mark lived with and was treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) for two decades, it was malignant melanoma, which he faced with determination over the past two years, that ultimately took his life.

Mark was born in Florence, Alabama, to June and Carroll Caskey. At the age of four, his family relocated to Richmond, where he was raised in the West End. He graduated from Douglas S. Freeman High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech in 1979. It was at Virginia Tech that he met the love of his life, Linda Westergren Caskey. Together they shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. She loves him and will miss him terribly.

Mark was a devoted family man, and he and Linda had 3 children that he loved and was so proud of - Brooke Caskey Hignett (David), Justin Michael Caskey (Samm Feagin Caskey), and Kelly Caskey Hutchison (Chris). These 3 were the joy of his life, and he was loved back. In addition, he was blessed to have 4 grandchildren (and 1 more on the way) who renamed him Vroom-Vroom - Beckett Mark Hignett (9), Walker David Hignett (6), Dean Michael Caskey (2), and Lily James Caskey (1).

Mark's greatest passions outside of family were boating and life on the water. He purchased his first boat while attending Virginia Tech and continued enjoying boating and water sports throughout his life. Some of his most treasured memories were made with family and friends at their lake house on Lake Anna.

Professionally, Mark was a gifted builder. More than 35 years ago, he founded Caskey Construction Company and went on to build more than 350 custom homes throughout the Richmond area. He took tremendous pride in his work and was known for always going above and beyond for his customers. The company shifted to focus on kitchen and bathroom remodeling, which he continued to enjoy over the past decade.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Mark is survived by his mother, June Caskey; his brother, Jim Caskey (Karen); his sister, Linda Caskey Nash (Kenneth); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mark had great faith in God and believed He guided his steps each day and that he truly had a blessed life for which he was grateful. Even through years of illness, his faith, determination, and positive outlook remained steadfast.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Williams and the team at the UVA Emily Couric Cancer Center for their exceptional care and compassion throughout Mark's journey with CLL. Dr. Williams is an extraordinary doctor and gave us many bonus years despite the illness.

There will be a funeral honoring Mark's memory at Woody Funeral Home on Parham Road on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UVA Emily Couric Cancer Center, UVA Melanoma and Skin Cancer Care, or to the VCU Massey Cancer Center, Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant Program.

Though he will be deeply missed, Mark's legacy lives on through the family he loved, the homes he built, the friendships he cherished, and the faith that sustained him throughout his life.
