

Max Vernon Vest, 72, of Glen Allen, VA, passed away on July 31, 2018. He was born on May 13, 1946, in Paoli, IN. He graduated from Tunnelton High School and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University. His career in higher education spanned over four decades, including 37 years as Director of Student Activities at the University of Richmond. In 2012, he received the Employee Outstanding Service Award for his contributions to the University community. Upon his retirement, the Max V. Vest Campus Impact Award was established in his honor. Max held several leadership positions in the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), including board chair, and received the NACA Lifetime Membership Award in 2012. He also served as the national vice president of the Golden Key International Honor Society and as the University of Richmond chapter adviser for 22 years. During his career, he served as a mentor to hundreds of college students and student affairs professionals from across the country. He will especially be remembered for his work ethic, signature mustache, and moves on the dance floor. Max was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janet Vest; brother Robert Vest; and parents Blish and Irene Vest. He is survived by daughters Jennifer Frank and Amy Vest; son-in-law Micah Hoggatt; sister Janet Morgan; grandson Aidan Frank; and several nieces and nephews. Interment will be private at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be held at the University of Richmond in the fall.
