Mildred Deans Shepherd

Mildred Allen Deans Shepherd of Richmond died Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Mrs. Shepherd was the daughter of the late Walter Judson and Susan Lorena Deans. She was born on June 4, 1910 in Portsmouth, Va. She was a 1928 graduate of Longwood College and taught school in Norfolk, Va. for several years before marrying her high school sweetheart Robert Edward Shepherd. Together, they spent 64 happy years of marriage before his death in August of 2000. Mrs. Shepherd was a longtime, active member of River Road Church Baptist and its Lydia Sunday School Class. She was pre-deceased by her infant son Allen Winder Shepherd and son Robert E. Shepherd, Jr. She is survived by her children, Susan Shepherd Eacho and husband Charles of Jacksonville, Fl., Walter Lee Shepherd and wife April of Chapel Hill, NC, and her daughters-in-law Nancy Shepherd of Richmond, Va. and Kathy Shepherd of NC; her grandchildren, Robert E. Shepherd III and wife Karen of Powhatan, Sharon Searcy and husband David of Powhatan, Stephanie Shepherd of Boone, Ia., Deborah E. Hollenbeck and husband Jeffrey of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles H. Eacho, Jr. and wife Julie of Bentonville, Ar., Shannon S. Amidon and husband Andrew of Coronado, Ca., Joshua K. Shepherd and wife Wendy of Garner, NC; her great-grandchildren, Robert E. Shepherd IV, Logan T. Shepherd, Brian A. Searcy, and William S. Searcy all of Powhatan, Christian S. Hollenbeck and Madelyn L. Hollenbeck of Jacksonville, Fl., Raegan K. Shepherd and Addison G. Shepherd of Garner, NC, and Emily B. Amidon of Coronado, Ca. There will a celebration of her life held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the multipurpose room of the Health Care Center at Lakewood Manor Homes, 1900 Lauderdale Dr., Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to River Road Church Baptist Missions and Youth Activities or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff and “family” at Lakewood Manor Homes for the devotion, love and care provided to their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
