

Oscar Dew Pitts, Jr., 99, of Richmond, Virginia went home to be with God on April 27, 2013. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Long. He is survived by his wife and lifelong “best girl”, Bertha R. Pitts, for whom he had an uncommon devotion and love. He is also survived by his daughter, Nancy Pettigrew (Jack), his grandchildren: Shearer Pettigrew (Tommy Pusser), John Pettigrew and great-grandchildren: Jack and Skyler Pusser.
Oscar served in WWII and was a Mason and member of Joppa Lodge 40. From his earliest years he was a member of First Baptist Church, Richmond. Returning to the Richmond area after the war, Oscar and Bertha became charter members of Lakeside Baptist Church, where he was first ordained as a deacon. He later returned to First Baptist Church, was a member of the Adams-Fellowship Class and served as a Lifetime Emeritus Deacon.
The family will receive friends Tuesday April 30, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road from 4-6pm. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at 2 pm in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church followed by internment at Hollywood Cemetery.
