Kay was born on March 19, 1943, in Oceana, WV, the 3rd of 7 children.
After 30+ years of dedicated service, Kay retired from Verizon as an Engineering Assistant.
Kay’s family was her whole world, and she is survived by her beloved children James “Keith” Wagner, Bambi Lynn Gladfelter, and Thomas Dean Wagner along with grandchildren David Shane Gladfelter, Madison Avery Kristine Wagner and Kaelyn Renee Grace Wagner. Her grandchildren were the lights sent from heaven to fill her heart.
Kay was a dedicated church member throughout her life at Sophia First Baptist Church, WV where her grandfather Rev. D A Wilson was pastor for many years- and most recently at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Va.
She was a trailblazer for women, working in a field that was reserved for men and while being a single mother still had time to lead the establishment of Little League softball programs for girls throughout southern WV.
She was a leader in both boy scouts and girl scouts. Her family, friends and community all benefited from her talents of sewing and knitting. She had a dry sense of humor and shared the love of Christ with everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Autism Society of Central VA.
