He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Duffe Harkrader, and his parents, Dorothy Kyle Ledford Harkrader and Paul Douglas Harkrader Sr. He is survived by his three children, Christopher C. Harkrader, Leslie H. Rowe (Steve Rowe) and D. Kyle Harkrader; three grandchildren, Lucy Ann and Andrew Douglas Rowe and Genevieve Grace Harkrader, all of Richmond.
Paul was born and raised in Christiansburg, VA. After studying building construction, he graduated from Virginia Tech in 1960 and was a lifelong Hokie fan. Paul was a member of the Sigma Lambda fraternity during his time at Virginia Tech. After a period of working in Atlanta, Georgia, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy as an Officer and proudly served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Paul later founded Eastern Technical Corporation which he owned and operated for more than 30 years.
Throughout his life, he has been a loving presence in the lives of family and many friends. Paul was known for being the life of the party and will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and loyalty to his family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Road, Henrico, VA 23229 on Monday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at church.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Virginia Tech Foundation or All Saints Episcopal Church.
