Raymond Wesley Matthews

Raymond worked as an autobody mechanic in many body shops in the area. He was a member of Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church, and enjoyed working on old cars and being around family and friends.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Grace Ballam Matthews and Arthur Raymond Matthews; and sisters, Ann M. Taylor (Ben), and Barbara T. Allen. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Billie J. Matthews; sons, James W. Sowards (Mary), Adrian Partain (Patsy), and daughter, Deana Maple (Robi); grandsons, Raymond J. Sowards (Heather), and Randell Phillips; great-grandchildren, J. Austin Sowards and Halie M. Sowards; and three nieces.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Amedisys for their wonderful care of Raymond.

The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA on Tuesday, November 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a chapel service on Wednesday, November 28 at 2 p.m., followed by interment in Ridge Road Baptist Church Cemetery, 1515 Eastridge Rd., Richmond, VA 23229.
