

Rian Thomas Maurer of Manakin-Sabot died on Dec. 27, 2015, several hours after his birth. Rian, son of Christi and Alex Maurer, was born at 25 weeks, along with his brother, Caiden Patrick Maurer. The twins suffered from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome but endured in utero thanks to the efforts of the medical teams at Johns Hopkins and MCV.
Rian succumbed following an emergency delivery at MCV, where Caiden remains in good condition. Rian is survived by his parents, Christi and Alex; his siblings Caiden, Rory, Lily and Gaige; his grandmother, Tracy Thornton; grandfather Jack Hall; grandparents Charles and Betty Maurer, great-grandmother Pamela Harper and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service for Rian will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Woody's Funeral Home on Parham Road.
