Richard Arnold Bell

Reverend Richard A. Bell, age 89, of Richmond, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 26, 2026. A devoted servant of God, Richard lived a life defined by steadfast faith, ministry, and a calling to teach.

Throughout his life, Reverend Bell touched many lives as both a pastor, professor at Southside Virginia Community College, and headmaster of Stony Point and Kenston Forest Schools. A graduate of the University of Richmond, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in English, he also pursued theological studies at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. Over more than 30 years in pastoral ministry, he faithfully served numerous churches, including Victoria Christian Church, where he spent the longest season of his ministry. He was also an Allstate Insurance representative from 1986 to 2000. He was dedicated to his earthly calling of sharing the Gospel, shepherding congregations with care, and molding minds in the classroom with wisdom and dedication. His commitment to the Word of God was the central anchor of his life's work.

Richard was the beloved husband of Barbara Morison. They shared an enduring love for over 25 years.

He was the loving father of Jennifer Dillon, Chris Bell and his wife, Lisa, and the late Peter Bell. He is also survived by his sibling, Brenda George and her husband, Dewey; his seven grandchildren: Liberty Reyes, Madeline Dillon, Sasha Bard, Hannah Dillon, Blue Bell, Abigail (Bell) Calhoun, and Gracie Dillon; and his six great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his two stepsons, Cabell Guy and his wife, Michelle, and James Guy and his wife, Gemma, as well as his step-grandchildren, Marisa (Guy) Murray, Taylor Guy, and James Guy.

While we mourn his physical presence, we take comfort in knowing he is now peacefully resting in the eternal embrace of the Heavenly Father, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. A small reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service. The service will be aired online as well. A link will be provided at a later date.

We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to all the caregivers at the Pavilion at Manorhouse, who took excellent, loving care of Richard as if he were a member of their own family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
