Robert "Bob" T. Matthews

Robert Turner Matthews, (Bob), of Richmond, VA was welcomed into heaven by his Lord Jesus on December 28, 2022, at the age of 88. Bob was born in Richmond, VA on December 14, 1934 to William and Flossie Matthews.

Bob is Survived by his daughter, Linda Matthews Bennett (Jamie); son Wayne Matthews (Lori); three grandchildren, Jason Bennett (Kate), Caitlin Bennett, And Scott Matthews; four step grandchildren, and three great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Swartz Matthews, his parents and one brother.

Bob was a devoted father and loving husband of 67 years. Bob proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and reserve for six years after graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. After that time, Bob began a successful career as a typesetter for the Richmond Times Dispatch where he was employed for many years. Later, Bob established a career in real estate, which included owning several large properties on Monument Avenue.

Bob was well known as an avid vegetable Gardner. He shared his delicious tomatoes with his family and friends every summer. Bob also enjoyed spending time with his wife Dorothy, at their vacation home in Deltaville, Va.

A visitation for Robert will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Woody Funeral Home - Parham, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229, followed by a Celebration of Life service from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM.
