

Robert Michael Witt died December 22, 2023. A twin. he was born in Hamilton County, Tennessee on July 2, 1929. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Jo Ann Gentry Witt, daughter Carolyn Grace Witt Aigner, Grandchildren Andy Aigner (Melissa) Adam Aigner (Kelly) and Aharon Aigner Mundy (JW) and their families, brother Harry Hopkins Witt and sister Pat Scaffa. He was predeceased by his parents William Owen Witt and Grace Louise Allen Witt, his brothers James Anthony Witt, Barney Allen Witt, Walter Timmons Witt, Norman Douglas Witt, William Owen Witt, Jr., James Franklin Eugene Witt, son-in-law Stephen Hall Aigner, sisters Betty Witt Hixson, Anna Katherine Witt Cope and Susan Lorene Witt Saulter. A life-long athlete, his talents were discovered in high school and after graduation from Ooltewah High School, he joined the United States Air Force stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Throughout his four-year enlistment, he played on Championship Air Force basketball teams in France, Spain, Germany, England, Norway, the USA and South Africa achieving undefeated standings. He also pitched baseball with equally stellar rankings. He was honored to serve his country as an air traffic controller during the Berlin Airlift. After returning to the United States, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Richmond, graduating in 1956. After a two-year training program of the America Fore Loyalty Group, he was sent to Orlando, Florida as a Special Agent and thereafter to Birmingham, Alabama. In 1967 He accepted the position of Risk Manager with Richfood, Inc. as well as President of Market Insurance Agency and President of Market Insurance Company, based in Bermuda, both wholly owned subsidiaries of Richfood. In this highly competitive atmosphere, he made lifelong friendships with his customers and served on several national committees in the industry. Wherever he lived, Bob participated in volunteering in Little League, Civic Association and Church leadership including Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Stewardship Chair, Men’s Club President, Usher Guild Chair and those frequent back-breaking clean-up workdays. He was a kind, caring, citizen well-loved by many and he helped make the world a better place. Services will be private.
