

Roy was born in New Jersey but lived most of his adult life in Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rosemiriam Martine, his sister, Jackie Childers Bartel and his beloved Golden Retriever, Lancer. Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Kay, his three children, Peggy Zunka (John), Jimmy Martine, and Jackie Locke (Tim); his seven grandchildren, Jennie Langley (Pat), Jimmy and Jack Zunka, Connor and Dudley Locke, Megan and Chess Martine; two bonus children, Kirk Andrews (Caitlin), Kim Price(Tim), stepson, George Simons(Diane) and five bonus grandchildren, Madeline and Bryce Andrews, Ashton, Hannah Kay and Mitchell Daugherty and two great granddaughters, Lucie and Olivia Langley. He is also survived by his nephews and niece, Lee Childers(Wendy), Gil Childers(Anne), Roy Childers(Kathy), Anne Lackland(Mike) and their children, as well as special cousin, Bob Rice(Pam). Additional loved ones are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike Hinchey (Jessie), Joyce Smithson(Clyde), Flanders Hinchey, Janie Hinchey. Roy loved football and played in high school at Fork Union, at the University of Maryland and for the U.S. Air Force. He was proud to play for Maryland in 1952 when Maryland won the National Championship at the Sugar Bowl against Tennessee. He worked for Johnson and Johnson after the military. He was an entrepreneur starting his own business, MacTavish, in Richmond. Upon selling MacTavish to General Medical, he became Vice President of Sales and Marketing at General Medical. Once again, he established a new company, Sterile Concepts in Richmond. As CEO, he took this company public on the New York Stock Exchange. After retiring, he and his wife, Kay, traveled extensively. The beach was his passion and the Outer Banks became an annual summer vacation for the entire family. Roy’s joy was his family and he took great pride talking about each member. As the family patriarch, he was in demand to listen to each child and grandchild and offer his much requested advice. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 21 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 11:30 at Third Church (Presbyterian), 500 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23229, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Third Church (Presbyterian).
