Sally Forman Slate

Sally was born on January 12, in Baumholder, Germany, into a proud and well-known military family. The daughter of the late two-star Army General Robert Clark Forman, Sally grew up as an “Army brat,” moving frequently with her family before ultimately putting down roots in McLean, Virginia, where her mother, Susie Hart Forman, still resides.

Sally was married to the love of her life and best friend, Edward Gilbert “Gil” Slate, for 47 years. Their enduring partnership was one of the great joys of her life. Together, they built a beautiful family and a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Sally was the devoted mother of Ashley Slate McGuire and her husband, Devin, Chelsea Slate Weiskopf and her husband, Trey, Monica Dawn Slate and Marcus Daniel Slate. She was the proud grandmother of Whitney and Landon McGuire, Windsor and Leighton Weiskopf, Nicholas Slate, and Peyton and Reagan Slate. Her daughters, son, sons-in-law, and grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy, and she was forever proud of each of them.

Being a grandmother was one of Sally’s greatest blessings. Affectionately known as “Sassy,” she wore the title proudly and treasured every moment with her grandchildren. There was nothing she loved more than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and simply being together.

For more than 40 years, Sally enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career as a real estate broker and interior decorator. Her work was more than a profession—it reflected her natural gift for bringing people together and creating beautiful, loving homes for families. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and at home wherever they were.

Sally’s warmth extended far beyond her family. She was a true friend to all, genuinely loved by so many, and never met a stranger. Her infectious smile, generous spirit, and unmistakable personality left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a rare ability to make people feel as though they had known her forever.

From an early age, Sally loved horseback riding, reading, skiing and being outdoors. She carried that appreciation for life, beauty, and connection throughout her years. Above all else, she cherished her family and the relationships she built throughout her life.

Sally will be deeply missed by her husband, Gil; her daughters and sons-in-law; her four grandchildren; her mother, Susie Hart Forman; her brothers, Robert Clark “Tede” Forman and Charles Edward “Chas” Forman; and countless extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Clark Forman, and her sister, Jacqueline Hart.

Sally leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, family, and beautiful homes and memories. Her smile, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial visitation to pay respects to Sally and her family will be held at Woody’s Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, on August 27th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A service honoring and celebrating Sally’s life will be held the following day, August 28th at River Road Baptist Church, 8000 River Road, at 11:00 a.m.

The family invites all who knew and loved Sally to remember her by embracing the people they love, opening their homes and hearts to others, and carrying forward the warmth and kindness she gave so freely.
