Dr. Sarah Huldah Hoover Jones

Dr. Sarah Huldah Hoover "Gigi," Jones, 95, passed away on October 28, 2014. Born April 8, 1919 to the late Rev. Milton Josiah Hoover Sr. and Daisy Cooper Hoover, she was the seventh of eight siblings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dr. George Robert Jones Sr.; and is survived by her four children, Virginia Ann Jones of Richmond, Sarah Prestipino and husband, Tony, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Mary Reeves Danter and husband, Helmut, of Richmond and George R. Jones Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Gaithersburg, Maryland; six grandchildren, Tony and wife, Libby, Jennifer and husband, Erich, Kelly and husband, Jason, Mat and wife, Danielle, Stephen and wife, Mandy, and Morgan; four great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Dr. Catherine Hoover Stone of Orlando, Florida. She is also survived by three stepgrandsons, Steve, Greg and Andres; four stepgreat-grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. Dr. Jones graduated from Westhampton College at the age of 20 and was one of five in her family to graduate from the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine. She practiced Pediatrics for several years and then retired to raise her family. She was involved with her children's activities at The Collegiate Schools and was President of the AFS Intercultural Program and the Patrons' Association. A former member of New Bridge Baptist Church, where her father was pastor. Dr. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church. She loved to sew, crochet and cook; and we will never forget those cupcakes! The family would like to thank Senior Bridge and Hospice of Virginia at Retreat Hospital for the care of their mother. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Burial will be private.
