Sarah Johnson Waters

Waters, Sarah Lee Johnson, 88, of Glen Allen, VA went to be with the Lord on October 8, 2025. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Elwood, and her brother, Tom. She is survived by her children, Will (Stacey), Anne, Sarah Beth (Bryan), grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan (Miranda), Audrey (Matt), Brianna (Collin), Abby, and Austin, great grandchildren, Sophia and Levi, and her brothers, Bill (Pat) and David (Linda).

Sarah was a 1957 graduate of Johnston Willis Nursing School. She had a natural compassion for helping and caring for others both in her nursing career and among family and friends. She was an active member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for many years, where she was a part of the Primetimers Group and Young at Heart Choir. She enjoyed reading and collecting books and served as Church librarian for several years. Sarah loved to travel with Elwood and together they visited every U.S. State except Hawaii, taking in all the sights, shows, and experiences possible. She never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Westmont’s Inspiritas Center for their compassion and care during her time there.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. on Monday October 20, 2025, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA, 23059. A funeral service will follow at noon, with interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
