

Sheila Atack Swanson, of Glen Allen, died on February 5, 2013. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 30, 1934 to Nora Kenny Atack and Clarence S. Atack, Mrs. Swanson attended Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio, and graduated from Hermitage High School in Henrico County in 1952. She attended Richmond Professional Institute, and married her husband, a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, Don Swanson, on June 12, 1954. The couple resided for some years in New Orleans, Louisiana; Dallas, Texas; Stamford, Connecticut; and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, before moving to Crossridge Community in Glen Allen in 2004. Mrs. Swanson's career included working as a model, real estate agent, artist, and illustrator. Don's career was in advertising. She was a champion Bridge player, accomplished cook, avid gardener, engaging conversationalist, and generous and beloved friend. She enjoyed visiting museums, attending local concerts, and visiting with a large circle of family and friends. Mrs. Swanson is survived by her husband, Don G. Swanson of Glen Allen; sons, Erik E. Swanson and Brion G. Swanson of White Lake, Michigan; brother, Robert Atack of Richmond; sisters, Patricia Atack Lough of Vienna, Virginia, and Kathleen A. Garson of Chestertown, Maryland; nine nieces and nephews and 15 great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Atack. A memorial service will be held at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park Mausoleum at Mount Vernon Baptist Church on Nuckols Road on February 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
