Mrs. Wendelyn "Wendy" Virginia Dickson

Wendelyn Virginia Love Dickson, known affectionately as Wendy, was born on April 18, 1945, in Greenville, Texas, and passed away on July 14, 2026, at Lakewood Manor retirement community in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of Oliver Wendell Love and Sarah Virginia Davis Love and the sister of Oliver W. Love II.

Wendy became a Christian at age 9 at First Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. She graduated from Greenville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas and a Master of Arts in Education Supervision from Texas Woman’s University. In 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, William Donald “Don” Dickson. Wendy and Don were blessed with two beloved daughters: Jennifer Dickson Christensen, M.D., an internist at James McQuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and Leigh Dickson McCullar, an HR Business Partner at Hamilton, who also resides in Richmond. Wendy adored her five grandchildren: Michael William Christensen, Andrew Stephen Christensen, Daniel Hayden Christensen, Hannah Elizabeth McCullar, and Seth Grayson McCullar. She also thought highly of her two sons-in-law: J. Stephen Christensen, M.D., whose sense of humor she loved, and Joshua Seth McCullar, a talented architect whose work she loved to admire.

Wendy taught school for 27 years in Arlington, Greenville, and College Station, Texas, retiring in 2003. In 2010, Wendy and Don moved to Richmond, Virginia, to be near their daughters and their families.

Wendy loved her family, her friends, her students, fellow teachers, growing up in Texas, and living in Richmond, Virginia. In recent years, she enjoyed researching her ancestry and discovering that her first ancestors in America landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, before 1700. She also had a deep love for her former pets: Boots, Charger, Buford, Murphy, Maxwell, Charlie, Lamb Chop, Spencer, and Dora.

Wendy appreciated laughter and fellowship with friends and family, good books, travel, movies, genealogy research, learning new things, and visiting new places. She had a deep love of Christ and served others through Meals on Wheels in College Station through Christ United Methodist Church, as well as through the Ministry of Compassion, the clothes closet, and showers for the homeless at First Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.

Wendy was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed. They take comfort in knowing she is now with our Father in heaven and that they will be reunited with her one day.

She is survived by her husband, Don; her daughters, Jennifer and Leigh; her sons-in-law, Stephen and Josh; and her five grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, Daniel, Hannah, and Seth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. A family service is being planned at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park in Richmond, Virginia.
