IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
William Marion Stephens, age 74, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 after a four-year battle with a rare intestinal cancer. He was born in Oklahoma, spent most of his adult life in Northern Virginia and only recently relocated to Richmond.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Barbara, and two daughters, Melanie, and Stephanie (Evan Apotheker) and his grandson Teddy.
He attended the University of Oklahoma and his whole family were avid Oklahoma football fans (go Sooners!). After college he received his MBA at Harvard Business School. He owned a small business in Florida and commuted to Northern Virginia for over a decade. His passions besides football were his family. He was always generous with his time and got heavily involved in competitive swimming both at the community pool and the Northern Virginia swim league, high school swimming and US Swimming, becoming a referee and training others to run swim meets. He also organized under-11 girls’ soccer, and helped guide his church. He belonged to his beloved running club, the Hash House Harriers for three decades. He was most proud of his daughters’ achievements: Melanie with her MBA and work in business consulting and Stephanie’s medical degree and work in palliative care.
A graveside service for William will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238.
