Alice "Polly" Crisler Shanks died on September 22, 2018 in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service following immediately. Private burial service will be held at Lakewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Shanks was born in Raymond, MS, the daughter of Alice and Jeff Crisler, and she lived her adult life in Jackson.
She graduated from Raymond High School, Hinds Jr. College and Millsaps College, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Mrs. Shanks received a Master of Library Science Degree from the University of Mississippi. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a librarian at the Mississippi Research & Development Center.
Polly Shanks was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ben Fatheree Sunday School Class and served in the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Cosmos Luncheon Club and the Heritage Luncheon Club.
Mrs. Shanks was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Shanks, her son, William E. Shanks, Jr., her sister, Elizabeth Fugate, and two brothers, Davis Crisler and Giles Crisler. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bierman (Mike) of Dallas, TX, and Janet A. Shanks (Peter van Suntum) of New York City; her daughter-in-law, Jean Shanks, of Birmingham, Alabama, and her three grandchildren, Will Shanks (Tera), Amanda Shanks, and Molly Bierman,
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church or Millsaps College.
