

Arty Emile Girod made his way to his heavenly home on February 3, 2025, in Flora, MS. Arty passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born March 7, 1958, in Jackson, MS to William and Nancy Girod. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a true public servant whose life was dedicated to protecting and serving.
Arty married the love of his life, Vicki, in 1984. Together, they built a loving home and a family, raising two children: daughter, Hallie Jones (Douglas) of Madison, MS and son, Hayes Girod (Lauren) of Madison, MS. Their marriage of 41 years was a testament to his deep love and commitment, and his devotion to his family was unwavering.
Arty’s career in law enforcement spanned more than 40 years, where he earned the respect and admiration of everyone he worked with. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s degree from Mississippi College, and was a 1996 graduate of the FBI National Academy. He began his service with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, where he quickly became known for his strong work ethic and integrity. He went on to serve as Director of Security at Methodist Hospital in Jackson. Arty then took on the role of Director of Police and Logistical Services at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he helped oversee security and law enforcement. His leadership was integral in creating a safer environment for both patients and hospital personnel. Arty later served as Chief of Police for the Flora Police Department. His career was built on service to others.
Despite his many professional accomplishments, Arty’s true joy came from his family. He was an unwavering pillar of strength, always ready with a listening ear or a word of wisdom. He adored his five grandchildren: Bryce Jones, Charlie Jones, Mac Girod, Arty Girod, and Mattie Lou Girod. Arty took immense pride in being a part of their lives. Whether it was watching little league, hunting, fishing, or simply spending time together, Arty’s greatest joy was seeing his children and grandchildren thrive. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nancy Girod. He is survived by a brother, Win Girod (Carol), brother-in-law, Charlie McLemore (Wanda), and his wife’s parents, Charles and Mary Sunshine McLemore.
A memorial service celebrating Arty’s life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Madison, MS, with a visitation preceding the service from 10:00-11:00. A graveside service will follow at Flora Cemetery. Pallbearers being Steve Gaines, Larry Iles, Jimmy Jordan, Billy Little, Tony Queen, and Mark Schoonover.
Arty Girod’s legacy of service, devotion, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a man of honor who dedicated his life to protecting and serving others, and his memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
