Audine D Buffington

A.D. Buffington, 86, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at UC San Diego Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12p.m. on Friday, November 9 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The service will directly follow.

A.D. was born in Mize, MS to Annie Runnels and Walton Buffington on January 20, 1932. He grew up in south Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana before settling in Jackson where he lived with his wife, Ruth Jones Buffington, who he was married to over 60 years.

He was a Navy veteran who was a pioneer in long term care insurance in Mississippi and spent his life working in the insurance and nursing home industries. A.D. was Founder and President of CB&S Management Company, as well as President and Founder of Wesley Charitable Foundation. He served on numerous boards during his life including the Regions Bank Jackson Advisory Board; Mississippi Health Care Insurance Services Corporation, of which he was a former chairman; MHCA Self Insurers’ Fund, of which he was a “Founding Father” and the first Chairman from 1990-1994; and the Caregivers United Liability Insurance Company, RRG, of which he was the Chairman, Executive Vice President, and served on several committees.

A.D. was member of the Jackson Optimist Club and Magnolia Healthcare, Inc., of which he was on the board of directors for eight years. He was also involved with the Mississippi Healthcare Association, where he was President from 1986 to 1991 and former Chairman of the Board at Wesley Biblical Seminary. He was also a member of Crossgates Methodist Church.

A.D. is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carroll “Jack” Buffington. He is survived by his sister, Dottie Buffington Barger of Pensacola, Florida, and “his girls,” wife, Ruth; daughter, Donna Buffington Griffin of Jackson; and granddaughter Lexie Griffin of Fort Worth, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley Biblical Seminary, French Camp, or donations may be made to a charitable foundation of your choice.

I have known and respected A D for many years while serving on the Board of Trustees at Wesley Biblical Seminary with him. He was a Godly man of great character, warmth and kindness. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. My deepest condolences to the family.

A. D. was a tremendous friend and advisor to me. When I first accepted the position as president of Wesley Biblical Seminary, I reached out to him for guidance. A. D. never let me down. I trusted his guidance because it was always based in goodwill and the best interest of WBS. We lost him too soon. I shall miss his counsel and friendship.
