Barbara B. Phelps

Barbara B. Phelps, 80, passed away Monday, June 26, 2014. She was born in Starkville, MS, Mar. 19, 1934 to Nile D. and Olida Burdine. She received her high school diploma from Starkville High before attending Mississippi State College, where she became a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In 1956, she graduated with bachelor's degree in Social Work. Barbara's graduating class was the last class to graduate MS State College when it changed to MS State University. She remained a faithful MSU fan, armed with her cow bell, her entire life.

She is survived by her loving husband: John M. Phelps, Sr. of Madison, MS; son: John M. (Karen) Phelps, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter Laurie P. (Wayne) Green of Flora, MS; grandsons: Jordan and Jake Phelps; granddaughters: Gracie and Victoria Phelps and Amanda (Craig) Bilberry; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jun. 19, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Wright and Ferguson Parkway Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jun. 20, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, with a one hour visitation preceding. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
