Bernard Alfred Cohen, loving father of three daughters, died on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the age of 106 in Dallas, TX, with his memory and sense of humor sharp. He was known to many outside his immediate family as Buddy, a name aptly befitting his personality.
Buddy was born on March 29, 1912, in Jackson, MS. He graduated with his BS and Doctor of Dental Surgery from Northwestern Dental School in 1935. Buddy served in the army during World War II and stationed in Italy starting in March 1944. He achieved rank of Major and received Bronze Star for Meritorious Service against the Armed Enemy-Po Valley Campaign. He practiced dentistry and was devoted to his patients and profession for the next 47 years.
On October 12, 1947 Dr. Bernard Cohen married Ann Esther Singer, who he loved deeply. They raised three daughters: Marilyn, Harriet, and Debbie in Jackson. Buddy was known for his love of family and his positive acceptance of whatever life offered (“what is, is”).
Buddy was preceded in death by his father Sam, mother Nell, wife Ann Esther, two brothers Lazar and Marvin, and other close cousins. He is survived by his three daughters Marilyn (Stan) Rothstein, Harriet (Lainey Grace deceased) Cohen, and Debbie (John) Wills all of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren Josh(Lisa) Rothstein, Neal (Paige) Rothstein, Laura Wills, Daniel Rothstein, Erica (David) Wills Bashover and David (Shayna) Wills, and five great grandchildren: Chavy, Hillary, Maya, Abbie and Gabe Rothstein.
Funeral services will be held in Jackson, MS on Sunday August 12, 2018 at 3:00 in the Conference Room at Marriott Courtyard in Ridgewood, 6280 Ridgewood Court Dr. followed by graveside services at
Beth Israel Cemetery
