Betty was born on October 6, 1934, in Nashville, TN to the late Clyde Earl Woodward and Naomi Smallwood Woodward. Betty was the oldest of three wonderful sisters.
Betty met the love of her life, John Edward Proctor from Whitebluff, TN in 1953. They married on August 8, 1954, and lived in Nashville, Chicago and Birmingham until ultimately settling down in Jackson, MS in 1967. They lived there until John passed away in 2020. It was at this time that Betty moved to Franklin, TN. Betty and John were avid bridge players and hosted many bridge clubs at their home. Betty continued to play bridge until just a few months ago. She exposed her children to music, books, and libraries at a young age, sharing with them her own love of life-long learning. Betty also hosted many events for her children, including dinners for the Murrah High School Singers and the Murrah Misses. She was supportive and volunteered for anything that involved her children’s activities and interests.
Betty spent most of her career as an Administrative Assistant in several different industries. One of her first jobs was at the Tennessee state capitol building in Nashville. She was very passionate about her work while employed by Sunnybrook Children’s Home in Ridgeland, MS. Later, she mostly worked in the medical industry.
Betty was a devoted Christian who loved reading her Bible. She and her family were longstanding members of the Meadowbrook Church of Christ in Jackson, MS, where she was a Sunday school teacher for years. Betty and John later became members of the Lake Harbour Church of Christ in Ridgeland, MS.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents; her sister, Janice Woodward Cox; brother in laws, David Gill, George Cox and Richard McClanahan; and bonus granddaughter, Stacy Reed.
She is survived by her children, John Hannon Proctor (Angela), Elizabeth Proctor Batte (Rich), and Paige Proctor Pisacane (Frank); grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Proctor, Jacob Rogers Proctor, Sam Hannon Proctor, Phoebe Lea Proctor, Jonathan Langley Rice (Kelly), Peyton James Pisacane, and Tristan John Pisacane (Lindsey); bonus granddaughter, Rachel Dow; and bonus great grandchildren, Noah, Anna Kate, Hayes, Ella and Charlie; her sisters, Jackie Gill (Robert) and Donna McClanahan.
